For much of the early 2000s, Bridget Jones was a big part of our cultural landscape. She made her debut with her much talked about diary in 2001. The film wasn't Zelwegger's first outing in a big production. Other titles include Me, Myself, and Irene, and Jerry Maguire. She followed the original Briget Jones Diary up with sequels in 2004 and 2016, both of which entertained audiences and drove her story forward.
But it’s been nine years since we’ve seen the starring character. Turns out, during the long hiatus, a lot has happened to Mrs. Jones. Now, we get a return to the woman and her world just in time for Valentine’s Day, or Galantine’s Day as the trailer points out!
The new film, Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy, makes its debut on February 13 on Peacock—an unconventional premiere for a studio film. It will subsequently drop in theaters worldwide on February 14th. The new film advances into future territories, finding Renee Zellweger still playing the titular Mrs. Jones.
This time, she’s in a bit of a funk. Her great love, Mark Darcy (Colin Firth), has passed away. That leaves her a single mother raising two children. While she loves her children and her life, it’s a bit empty. That’s something that’s pointed out by all those in her life, including Dr. Rawlings (Emma Thompson) and old boss Daniel (Hugh Grant).
When Bridget comes across a younger man (Leo Woodall), sparks begin to fly similar to how romance began with Darcy. But can a romantic connection really work between these two who are in radically different places in their lives? If the trailer is any indication—or you follow the history of the films—it would seem the answer to that might be yes.
Fortunately, the newest movie comes out on the perfect day. If we're looking for good date movie options, and Bridget Jones has always provided that in spades. This new streaming film gives you the option to have a fun, original theatrical experience from the comfort of your own home!
