The teenage coming of age story combined with some well-crafted pop music rarely fails with audiences, so it was not such a big surprise when Camp Rock (2008) and Camp Rock 2 (2010), coming in quick succession, were a great success. What also worked was the combination of Demi Lovato and the Jonas Brothers in leading roles, while the rest of the cast was not far behind in terms of talent. It turns out that the two films are in the Disney Original Movies top 10, and both Disney and Nielsen recorded that they were No. 1 Cable Movie Premiere in the years when they premiered.

Yet, then came a lull, maybe because the key actors became big stars (they eventually did grow up too), or there were too many obligations in the meantime. So, it took 15 years for Disney Branded Television to come up with an official announcement that Camp Rock 3 is in the works on Disney+ and the Disney Channel. As per this announcement, the filming has already started in Vancouver, Canada. Some casting and plot details are already known, so let's delve into it.

Who will be int the cast of Camp Rock 3?

First off, what about the key actors from the previous two films? The official announcement said that all three Jonas brothers will be there, and they will reprise their roles as Shane Gray, Nate Gray Jason Gray, guest starring as the members of the band Connect 3. Also coming back are Maria Canals-Barrera (Wizards of Waverly Place) as Connie and Sherry Cola (Joy Ride) as Lark.

But what about Demi Lovato? It is said that she will be an executive producer (along with The Jonas Brothers), but there is no mention whether she will act (or sing) in her previous or another role. Chances though of that seem to be very slim t the moment.

At the same time, there will be quite a few new cast members: Liamani Segura (Descendants: Wicked Wonderland) as Sage, Malachi Barton (Zombies 4: Dawn of the Vampires) as Fletch, Lumi Pollack (Electric Bloom) as  Rosie, newcomer Hudson Stone as Desi, Casey Trotter (The Thundermans) as Cliff, Brooklynn Pitts as Callie, and Ava Jean as Madison.

The duo that wrote and directed Slumber Party will helm the movie. Veronica Rodriguez will direct, and Eydie Faye will write the script. Jamal Sims will create the choreography, and the movie will be produced by Disney Branded Television.

What will be the plot of Camp Rock 3?

The official press release gave some basic lot lines of the new Camp Rock sequel. Essentially, the story will pick up where it left off—at the moment that Connect 3 loses their opening act for a major reunion tour. They return to Camp Rock, their old stomping ground, in search of the next big thing.

Of course, the promising youths are trying to show their best in front of the members of their favorite band with the usual plot lines in teenage movies: new friendships, romances, revelations, and tensions. Coming to prominence will be sister and brother Sage (Segura) and Desi (Stone), cello prodigy Rosie (Pollack), drummer with his own beat Cliff (Trotter), choreography queen Callie (Pitts), intimidating influencer Madison (Jean), and camp bad boy Fletch (Barton).

It seems that the main idea of Camp Rock 3 is to combine the fact that the members of Connect 3 are grown up now, with the teenage musical drama as the main theme. We’ll see whether it will work, but the viewership will certainly be up there with the previous two films.
