Costumes for 'canceled' Marvel movie reused in one of the biggest movies of 2025

Come for the costumes, stay for everything else

No, you won't find a Captain Britain costume popping up here, nor a swanky Kang outfit in this film. But Marvel did provide costumes for this top hit, despite it being from a rival studio.

It isn't every day that you read about cooperation between competing studios. When it comes to Disney and Warner Bros., it isn't even every century. Yet that's exactly what happened between the two media giants to help create the best film so far of 2025.

Okay, so providing costumes for background characters might be a stretch insofar as creation goes. But having a readymade wardrobe for an extensive cast in a period piece goes a long way toward speeding up production. Cost overruns have killed more than one movie, so Marvel did Warner Bros. a solid here. As to why, well, that makes perfect sense when you know the details.

The "'canceled" film in question is Blade. I use the term canceled loosely, though. As reported by Variety, Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige said, "...whenever we change direction with a project, or are still trying to figure out how it fits into our schedule, we let the public know. You’re up to date on what’s going on. But I can tell you that the character will be coming to the MCU.”

So what's the connection? If you think back a few years, there's a certain director who pulled in $2.2 billion for Marvel between his two films. Only Spider-Man: No Way Home and the various Avengers movies raked in more cash than Ryan Coogler's Black Panther films. So perhaps it shouldn't be so surprising that Feige would be happy to help Coogler out.

Now it isn't quite so lovely a tale as it could have been. Marvel - aka Disney - didn't give the costumes away, or even lend them. But they did provide what were likely dozens of costumes at cost. And when you consider that two-time Oscar-winning designer Ruth Carter worked on both the long-delayed Blade and Sinners, Ryan Coogler knew what he was getting. After all, she designed the amazing costumes in both Black Panther films.

As for Sinners, it's my choice for the best film of 2025 so far too. Even better, you can check out the flawless costume design on streaming now. But really, give yourself a treat and see this at the theater It's just that good.
