Dawson's Creek stars are reuniting after 22 years in new movie trilogy

Hint: It's exactly who you want it to be!

It's the reunion we knew we needed and also deserved! Since Dawson's Creek left the air with its polarizing series finale in 2003, few of the cast members have worked together again. Save for the enduring friendship of Michelle Williams and Busy Philipps and their underrated comedy I Feel Pretty, it's been over two decades since we watched most of the cast share the screen together.

While the whole gang got back together in 2018 to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Dawson's Creek's premiere, we had to wait a while longer to see any of them actually back in action. On Monday, July 21, 2025, the news arrived that two of the stars from The WB classic are reuniting for a new movie trilogy. (Before you get too excited, it's not a Dawson's Creek revival.)

Katie Holmes and Joshua Jackson reunite for Happy Hours trilogy

Dawson's Creek stars Katie Holmes and Joshua Jackson will star together in Happy Hours, which will be a trilogy of feature films written and directed by Holmes. Joe Tippett, John McGinty, Donald Webber Jr., and Nathan Darrow have also been cast in the film series. Production began in New York City in July, and Page Six shared the first photos from the NYC set. Check them out below!

Happy Hours has been described as a character-driven dramedy that explores young loves that have reconnected later in life. Perhaps that's why Holmes decided to cast her real-life and small-screen ex-boyfriend in the role. The trilogy follows the couple, played by Holmes and Jackson, as they navigate all of life's usual challenges on top of their careers and relationship.

According to Deadline, Happy Hours counts Maven Screen Media and Bond Street Station as producers, as well as Crown Productions and STX Films. The movies don't appear to have a distributor just yet, but production is going full-steam ahead on all three, as filming on the two follow-up movies will reportedly begin shortly after filming wraps on the first movie.

It's so surreal to see Pacey and Joey back together again! When the photos from set started coming out before the news dropped, some fans worried that Holmes and Jackson, who had previously dated in real life during the early years of the teen drama series, were reuniting for a television commercial. "If this is for a Walmart commercial, put me in the ground," one fan posted.

As someone who was a huge fan of their characters in Dawson's Creek (seriously, it was Joey and Pacey or nothing!), I'm beyond excited to see Holmes and Jackson's chemistry onscreen once again. It's not something I ever thought would happen, but it's thrilling that it will be in a passion project for Holmes rather than a bad reboot. Just think of how fun this promotional tour will be!
