Jordan Peele first made a name for himself as a comedian on the sketch comedy series Key and Peele. He then surprised the world with his directorial debut, Get Out, which was a cultural phenomenon, a box office success, and even won him an Oscar for Best Original Screenplay. Peele continued to cement himself as an auteur in the horror movie world with Us and Nope, both of which were financial and critical hits.

Peele's untitled fourth movie was announced in May 2023, and like Peele's other movies, no hint was given about its plot. Universal initially positioned the movie as a holiday tentpole, originally set to be released on Dec. 25, 2024. PDelayed due to the SAG-AFTRA strikes in 2023, it got a new release date of October 2026.

Anticipation for Jordan Peele's fourth movie has been high in light of his previous hits. Unfortunately, the movie has been dealt a devastating blow that puts its future in question. While it was previously scheduled for Oct. 23, 2026, Variety reports that Peele's latest movie has been pulled from Universal Pictures' release schedule.

Now, Universal has removed the 2026 release date as well. More worryingly, no new release date has been given. Movies are sometimes pulled from the release schedule without a new date, but it is far less common for high-profile projects like Peele's. At the very least, it suggests a long wait until the movie is released.

Jordan Peele's next movie is already hugely anticipated

With only three movies as a director so far, Jordan Peele has already become one of the most exciting filmmakers in Hollywood. His horror movies laced with thought-provoking social commentary have become a genre themselves. Like Christopher Nolan and Quentin Tarantino, he is a filmmaker whose name alone can sell a movie, and there is always plenty of excitement over seeing what's next.

Peele's most recent movie, Nope, marked a significant step forward for the filmmaker, as it demonstrated his ability to craft a big-budget summer tentpole that remained original and complex. Peele's fourth movie seemed primed to be another big blockbuster, and Peele himself set high expectations, even though he revealed very little about what the movie would be about.

When speaking about his fourth movie in 2024 on the podcast Conan O'Brien Needs a Friend, Peele suggested that, out of all his movies to date, this new project "could be my favorite movie if I make it right.” Peele's passion for the new movie indicates that it is not something he would abandon easily and that fans are likely going to see it at some point.

Hopefully, this latest update on Jordan Peele's new movie is just a reshuffling of Universal's release dates, and a new date will be revealed soon. However, with Peele becoming such a renowned and popular filmmaker, the wait to see his latest project is going to feel like a long one.
