Millennials who grew up in the gruesome age of Hollywood horror recall all too well the nightmares that Final Destination 2 unleashed. The little-known supernatural thriller featured some rather ingenious, albeit violent ways, to ax main characters. Death marks them all from the start, but how they unfold makes their departures stand out. Ridiculous circumstances line up perfectly for all hell to break loose, which is what happens when a big rig carrying a load of logs gets involved.
In the second entry, the premonition portion sees everyone die on a highway. Most of the casualties result from the previously mentioned logs dropping onto oncoming traffic. One death receives the full 360 treatment as the camera pans everywhere. The angles go from the exterior to the person inside as they watch the logs break loose. Each frame gets progressively tenser until a whole log careens directly through a vehicle's windshield. The driver is killed instantly in a brutal display that still feels like one of the most violent in a movie to date. No wonder the movie traumatized a generation.
Since then, images of trucks hauling logs have brought up feelings of anxiety for many. No matter how unrealistic the circumstances, people have become scared to drive behind big rigs. While the odds of chains coming loose are unlikely on an individual scale, there is a real-world fear to be aware of.
Between 2011 and 2015, studies showed that log trucks attributed to a number of fatal crashes. Those numbers increased by 41 percent in four years, which speaks to how prevalent log truck accidents are.
Tribute to the Second Entry
Final Destination: Bloodlines is picking at old wounds with a subtle callback. A new clip featuring two main characters shows them driving a motor home towards an intersection. The driver approaches a bit too fast and has to step on the brakes, stopping inches away from an incoming truck.

The truck is hauling an all too familiar load of wooden logs that could cause a death at any point, except nothing happens. They survive the situation unscathed, but moments of respite for characters in the Final Destination universe never last.
Typically, when someone relaxes after surviving a near-death experience, a simple mistake leads to their ridiculously drawn-out demise. Nearly every installment has followed a similar formula, so those girls surviving that scene could be a precursor to them dying in some other horrific manner.
Having the surviving pair encounter a log hauler after dodging death would be a fun way to tell the audience not to jump to conclusions before the credits roll. Several installments have misled audiences into believing that the survivors escaped—up until the moment that the rug gets pulled out. Thus, the same thing that happened in Final Destination 2 could transpire in Bloodlines.
Final Destination: Bloodlines premieres in theaters on May 16, 2025.
