Oh no! One of Adam Sandler's best movies of all time is departing Netflix soon, and it's a huge bummer. Happy Gilmore, aka the cult-favorite comedy that turned golf into a hilarious battleground, is teeing off from the platform this August. We would hate for you to miss out on all the laughs, so we shared the official departure date and more below.
When it comes to licensed content, streaming platforms must operate within strict agreements that dictate how long they can offer certain movies and shows. Unfortunately, Happy Gilmore’s time on Netflix is coming to an end as the licensing deal expires, meaning subscribers only have a limited window left to stream this comedy classic.
Happy Gilmore was added to Netflix's library on July 1, 2025. Its addition came as a surprise since it wasn't included in the streaming giant's initial lineup of new releases for the month. However, that didn't stop Sandler fans from jumping at the chance to stream the beloved comedy. Knowing that the long-awaited sequel was set to be released on the platform later in July, viewers were especially excited to revisit the original.
But what about those who have yet to press play? Well, the clock is ticking, and Happy Gilmore won’t be around much longer. In fact, Netflix has set a departure date for Friday, Aug. 1, 2025. This means the last day you can stream the comedy flick on the platform is Thursday, July 31, 2025.
Fortunately, it will still be around when Happy Gilmore 2 hits the platform on July 25. So if you're one of those people who loves a good rewatch, or you’ve somehow never seen the original, you still have time to catch up. Just don't wait too long!
Happy Gilmore is a sports comedy film written by Sandler and Tim Herlihy. Dennis Dugan directed the movie. It was released in theaters in 1996 and became a commercial success despite receiving mixed reviews from critics. Sandler stars in the leading role as Happy Gilmore, a hot-headed aspiring hockey player who discovers an unexpected talent for golf and enters the professional circuit to save his grandmother’s house from foreclosure.
The cast also included other talented actors such as Christopher McDonald, Julie Bowen, Carl Weathers, Allen Covert, and the late Richard Kiel and Frances Bay.

Happy Gilmore 2, which was directed by Kyle Newacheck and written by Sandler and Herlihy, takes place 29 years after Happy won his first big golf tournament. Now a retired golfer, he decides to return to the sport after realizing he needs to support his daughter Vienna’s ballet education. Sandler reprises his role as Happy. The rest of the cast includes Bowen, McDonald, Ben Stiller, Kevin Nealon, Benny Safdie, Bad Bunny, Kym Whitley, Sunny Sandler, and others.
