The third movie in the I Know What You Did Last Summer franchise is here. And yes, it is a continuation of the original movies starring Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr. Think of it as a little like Scream 4, which picked up the franchise again.
If you haven’t gone to see it in theaters yet, I urge you to go, especially as a fan of the original movie. Of course, movie theaters are expensive, and one of the best things about this movie is that it’s going to Netflix before any other streaming platform.

I Know What You Did Last Summer is a Sony movie
Sony movies go to Netflix first. Sony and Netflix agreed on a Pay 1 window, which means that while it will go to Netflix first, it doesn’t remain there forever. It’s why I always believe in getting movies you love on DVD or Blu-ray, but that’s a side bar.
I Know What You Did Last Summer will head to Netflix. The question of when is a little harder to work out, but there is a pattern. Previous Sony movies took around four months to go from the theaters to Netflix, so we’re looking at something similar with this latest horror flick.
So, with that in mind, get ready for mid-November 2025. Sadly, it’s not going to be in time for Halloween to watch it with your friends and do a whole marathon, but it should be in time for Thanksgiving to turn that holiday into something a little spookier.
What about I Know What You Did Last Summer on Digital and DVD?
As I said, DVD is the way to go. Too many movies are constantly on the move with streaming platforms, unless they are outright owned by the streamers. Even then, the streaming platforms don’t guarantee their movies will stay on the platforms anymore. So, if you love something and you can, get it on DVD or Blu-ray.
Right now, I Know What You Did Last Summer has a Tuesday, Sept. 30 Digital release date. This is when you can buy or rent on Prime Video, Google Play, iTunes, and anywhere else you get your Digital releases. It’s not as secure as DVD to keep, but there’s less risk of losing the movie as long as you keep your account—you can’t transfer the license you buy to another account!
As for the DVD and Blu-ray release date, that’s not yet confirmed. It took A Minecraft Movie around two-and-a-half months to go from theaters to DVD, so based on that, we’re looking at around the beginning of October. We should have it on DVD by Halloween for those who want a whole marathon!
I Know What You Did Last Summer is still out in theaters and more than worth the watch.
