Superman was just the beginning, and Gunn is setting us up for even more action.

It's no secret that the new Superman film has done wonders for James Gunn's career. Since the last Guardians of the Galaxy movie, superhero fans everywhere have longed for that same character-driven, action-packed, feel-good flick from the genre. Thankfully, this is only step one in Gunn's new DC universe.

At the time of writing, Gunn is not only about to wrap up Peacemaker season 2, but working on two new shows featuring some heavy hitters of the DCEU. Make no mistake, this is all very exciting, but everything has a purpose. Gunn isn't just dishing out the fan service, he's building something big!

James Gunn launches Green Lantern and Wonder Woman series

According to TVLine, Gunn is setting up two new series focusing on the Green Lantern Corps and Wonder Woman's island of Themyscira. While still in production, both series have major roles to play in chapter one of Gunn's DCEU titled Gods and Monsters. A slow process, but one that's sure to have a massive payoff. If Gunn's recent materials are anything to go by, we have a lot to look forward to.

Let's review what we know now. Paired with the new Superman, we have a Green Lantern series (Lanterns), a Wonder Woman series (Paradise Lost), and a new Batman film reportedly in the works (The Brave and the Bold). Put them together and what have you got? Bibbidy-Bobbidy-Justice League!

From the "Justice Gang's" appearance in Superman, it's clear that this was always going to be the endgame, but many were probably not expecting so many projects to hit us all at once. Just as the Marvel Cinematic Universe did with the introduction of Captain America: The First Avenger, Gunn's Superman is simply the launchpad for our next big superhero team.

In this writer's opinion, James Gunn isn't just reinventing the superhero-team archetype here. He's taking viewers back to a time when superhero movies looked and felt completely different. There's an undeniable, optimistic flavor happening, and it might even give Disney and Marvel reason to worry.

Although no official reveal has been shared from Gunn or DC at the time of writing, it's becoming increasingly obvious that they are coming. Sooner or later, we'll see DC's best and brightest unite to battle the forces of evil. It's only a matter of when.

True, we might still have to wait years before we see Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, and all the rest, but James Gunn isn't leaving us empty-handed in the meantime. Right now, the best thing we can do is keep our eyes peeled, and watch the man work.
