Jason Momoa has been recast in the DC Expanded Universe

Jason Momoa, the former Aquaman actor, is becoming another DC character in live-action format. This is particularly confusing since Warner Bros. hasn't pulled Momoa from Aquaman yet.

For whatever reason, Warner Bros. has recast Jason Momoa as the next big thing, Lobo. Rather than having Momoa return as Atlantis' savior, he'll play a rebel bounty hunter in a future DC project. And Lobo isn't simply any average mercenary; his reach is intergalactic. He travels the stars for his kills, which is what's coming for the DC'EU. The live-action universe has seen its fair share of bounty hunters, but nothing like the Main Man.

To recap: Deadshot and Bloodsport, Peacemaker and Vigilante, and a few other members of the Suicide Squad qualify as bounty hunters. But again, the bounties they chase are small fries compared to Lobo's targets; he once tried to take down the Man of Steel.

As for appearances, Lobo (Momoa) will make his DC return in next year's Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. The film stars Mila Alcock as Kara Zor-el, AKA Supergirl. Opposite Alcock is Matthias Schoenaerts as Krem of the Yellow Hills.

While the plot is still getting fleshed out, the comics of the same name, Woman of Tomorrow, offer insight into what to expect. For one, an attempt on Kara's life is likely. Krem attempts to kill her on more than one occasion, even sending Kara to a planet with a Kryptonite sun above it. Who knows what slow exposure to the harmful substance would do, but it would undoubtedly be a grueling death.

Secondly, Kara uses Comet to neutralize her foe. There's no word on Supergirl's pet in the movie, although the inclusion of Krypto in Superman 2025 points to Kara riding atop her magnificent steed. Mind you, Comet might have a limited appearance ahead. He sacrifices himself in the comics to save his rider, which could be telling of the future.

Last and most importantly: Ruthye. Supergirl's ally in the comics hires an unnamed bounty hunter to kill the man who murdered her father—that man is Krem of the Yellow Hills. The identity of Ruthye's mercenary never gets unveiled, but Warner Bros. can feasibly make that Lobo. It presents the studio with a believable role for him to play—without making the movie more about an ancillary character than the titular hero.

It's worth mentioning that the DC Expanded Universe is adding various new characters to the live-action universe. Between the ensemble in Superman 2025 and Peacemaker Season Two, there'll be a lot of new faces making their names known—some of whom could appear in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.

Assuming the movie takes place on Earth, the Man of Steel might even make a cameo. Of course, Superman stepping in to save his baby cousin would defeat the purpose of her own hero's journey. In all likelihood, Kara will reach out to Supes for help defeating the movie's villain, except instead of beating Krem for her, he'll inspire Kara to do it on her own. Fans tend to forget that Superman is popular, not simply based on his physical strength, but for his ability to inspire others—to step up and become greater than themselves. That'll probably be the case again.

Superman 2025 premieres in theaters on July 11, 2025. Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow opens on June 26, 2026.
