Margot Robbie tapped to lead in this sci-fi remake (but there's still a catch)

She looks like she's ready to smash something.

A new Margot Robbie project is always big news. When it's tied in with a massively hot director and a tremendously talented author, you can expect big things to happen. In this case, very big things.

Margot Robbie isn't always a guaranteed winner at the box office—see the beyond quirky Amsterdam or the pitch-black comedy Babylon for proof. Then again, there's no doubt that without her, Barbie would have never been a billion-dollar success. 500 million, sure. Add director Greta Gerwig for a few extra hundred million. Gerwig is a bit busy, so no, she's not the director. But Robbie sent it straight through the roof.

This would be a massive hit if it ever gets off the ground. Sadly, there's a catch. Namely, that she and Warner Bros. are still hashing out the details. Other big names are involved, namely director Tim Burton. He's fresh off the success of Beetlejuice Beetlejuice and Wednesday season 2 on Netflix.

Margot Robbie would crush it with Attack of the Fifty Foot Woman

Technically, that would be about a woman with the astounding total of 250 toes. Something of a gender swap of the 1950s classic, The 500 Fingers of Dr. T, perhaps? I'd prefer to see a woman grow to a 50-foot height, myself. Far more potential for mayhem. And who better to pull off a remake of a 1950s sci-fi classic than the man who brought us the 50's sci-fi homage, Mars Attacks!

For those who don't know, there were two great themes in science fiction of the 1950s. Invaders from beyond Earth, which Burton already covered, and animals or people grown into giants by radiation. When animals or insects got big, the U.S. Army or the Air Force was typically called in as pest control. For people, it was a loved one to try to calm them down. Then the military swooped in to snuff them.

As for the remake, yeah, there are several catches. First, that top author, Gillian Flynn (Gone Girl), wrote a first draft but left for other projects. The second stumbling block was the potential for another sequel in the Beetlejuice saga. As it turns out, Burton doesn't know a thing about it. So that may have been resolved before it was ever an issue.

But it all hinges on the new script. And depending on how long that takes, Burton may busy with Wednesday season 3, set to film next year. Robbie has Wuthering Heights in post-production now, and a prequel to Oceans 11 in development already. I'd say she has a gigantic schedule, but frankly, even I'm sick of the puns at this point. Big time.
