Things are a little quiet when it comes to the movies on Netflix and streaming this week. That’s pretty standard, as the streamers get ready for the next big drops happening on the first of the new month.

However, there is still something worth checking out. It doesn’t matter if you want horror, action, or something in between, there are movies on Netflix, Prime Video, Hulu, and more worth checking out. We’ve got our top picks across the streamers, in release date order.

Anyone But You

The rom-com fans out there are the first to get a suggestion. The 2023 movie Anyone But You is finally heading to Hulu, so you can check out what all the hype is about. Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell star as the unlikely couple, because isn’t that what all rom-coms are about?

They end up at the same wedding, where they decide it’s worth pretending that they’re together for their mutual goals. Of course, you can guess where it goes from there, but there’s plenty of humor and fun moments to make this one worth the watch.

Anyone But You is on Hulu on Monday, Oct. 20.

Host

Not to be confused with other movies with the same or similar titles, Host is a new Amazon Original movie, and it’s one for the Thai movie fans. It’s a supernatural horror, that takes on the legendary “Mae Sue” folklore.

Ing is a young woman who finds herself on a remote island at a reform school. There’s a strict heirachy, and being new, Ing is right at the bottom. That could make her easy pickings for the strange and disturbing events that unfold once she gets to the island. The question is whether she’s a victim or the source of the threat.

Host is on Prime Video on Thursday, Oct. 23.

The Elixir

For those who are into horror, the foreign language movies tend to be the scariest, and that’s why you’ll want to check out the new Indonesian horror that’s coming to Netflix just ahead of Halloween. Titled The Elixir, it follows the story of a village being overrun by the undead, and it’s all because of the titular reason.

There is some family drama thrown in. Two families are usually at war, but they need to find some common ground if they want to survive the attack on their homes.

The Elixir is on Netflix on Thursday, Oct. 23.

A House of Dynamite

If you prefer an action thriller, then you’ll want to stick with Netflix. There’s an unidentified missile threat about to hit the United States in A House of Dynamite, and it’s up to one woman to figure out how to save the day.

Well, it is an ensemble cast, with Kathryn Bigelow in the lead. And we all know how these movies go. The military power players think they know what to do, and they usually get everything wrong. There is only one who will save the country.

A House of Dynamite is on Netflix on Friday, Oct. 24.

Migration

You need something for the whole family as much as possible, and Prime Video has us covered to close out the list. Migration is the 2023 family-friendly adventure that is what the title would suggest: a tale about migration.

A family of ducks have never left the safety of their New England pond, but they soon realize they need to get out of dodge and fly to Jamaica. Of course, even the best laid plans can go awry, and that’s what happens here, as they end up in New York City on an experience they never imagined.

Migration is available to stream on Prime Video on Friday, Oct. 24.
