A new month means new movies are headed our way – and the fall season is absolutely THE best time of the year for moviegoers. But not all features coming out in September are worth watching. Need a guide? FlickSided is here to help!
The month of September means the start of Spooky Season. We’ve got Brandy’s The Front Room, the brilliant James McAvoy’s haunting performance in Speak No Evil, and the twisted thriller Never Let Go starring Halle Berry. If you’re not a fan of horror, not to worry! The drama comedy His Three Daughters and sweet, animated tear-jerker The Wild Robot are sure to win you over.
As for movies we believe you need to avoid, we’ve got a list of them for you, too. Luckily, there aren’t too many. All of this to say, it’s going to be a great month for movie fans.
7 must-watch movies (September 2024)
- Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice in theaters Sept. 6
- The Front Room in limited theaters Sept. 6
- His Three Daughters in limited theaters Sept. 6
- Speak No Evil in theaters Sept. 13
- My Old Ass in limited theaters Sept. 13
- The Wild Robot in theaters Sept. 27
- Never Let Go in theaters Sept. 27
From this list, I’m the most excited to watch Beetlejuice Beetlejuice and Speak No Evil. The former for obvious reasons, including returning to the fun and nostalgic world of Beetlejuice. I love that this is a sequel, rather than a remake. But my favorite part? That the original cast is back, because you can’t replace the iconic original stars. Michael Keaton returns as Beetlejuice and Winona Ryger as Lydia. The hilarious and talented Catherine O’Hara is also back as Delia. Icons, I tell you. And speaking of icons, our favorite scream queen Jenna Ortega will also star.
Moving on to Speak No Evil, you only need to watch the trailer to know that James McAvoy’s performance is going to be a chilling one! He’s a great actor who gives it his all in any role he tackles, and this one is no exception! The psychological thriller follows a family on vacation who meet and befriend a family who reside nearby. The vacation turns into a nightmare when the unsuspecting family is invited over and are not allowed to leave.
Note that The Front Room, His Three Daughters, and My Old Ass will all premiere on limited release, which means only select theaters will be hosting showings. If you’re not able to catch the movie in your local theater, either a wide release will follow soon or the movie will be available on streaming – we’ll keep you posted!
4 movies to skip (September 2024)
- Hoard in limited theaters Sept. 6
- Transformers One in theaters Sept. 13
- The Killer’s Game in theaters Sept. 13
- Megalopolis in theaters Sept. 27
Moving on to movies we can go ahead and skip, we’ve got Hoard, Transformers One, The Killer’s Game, and Megalopolis. I know fans of the Transformers franchise are going to want to fight me on this, so please know this is only my opinion! But I have lost count of how many movies there are in the series. And, unfortunately, the majority are less than great. My interest in watching Transformers One is so low, I may not even watch it when it goes on streaming.
Speaking of streaming, The Killer’s Game should have gone straight to a streamer rather than the big screen. The plot sounds great on paper, but I have a feeling this isn’t going to do well.
Do you agree with our list? Which movies will you be watching in September?
