With Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse ending on a cliffhanger, many fans prayed that the delay between the sequel and the installment wouldn't be too long. However, the writers and actors strike as well as other issues, it was safe to say the film wouldn't be released this year.
But now, rumors have begun to surface that Sony has scrapped most of the film. Here's a look at what has transpired in the last 48 hours, as Spiderman fans hope it's not true.
Beyond the Spider-Verse might be pushed back to 2027
The rumors of a 2027 release date began to run rampant when Hollywood insider Jeff Sneider announced in a report that most of the film had been scrapped by Sony for creative purposes, and it also was pushed back to avoid conflicting with the Spider-Man 4 film. This release year would be three years after the original intended date of March 29, 2024.
In a direct response to the report, composer Daniel Pemberton quickly shut down the claims. He took to X and questioned the legitimacy of the post saying, "Don't really ever want to weigh in on this stuff BUT would you ever believe there could sometimes be stuff on the internet that might not always be particularly accurate?'
Producer Christopher Miller weighed in on the situation
Also, taking to X on the subject was the producer of the Spider-Verse series, Christopher Miller, who mentioned that "nothing has been scrapped" and "everything is coming together nicely." And that should allow fans of the series to breathe a sigh of relief.
Still, the big question is when can we expect to see Miles Morales and Gwen Stacy on the big screen again? Until then, it appears the rumor is untrue, and we can keep our fingers crossed for a release date in the coming months.
