Michael B. Jordan was on his way to becoming one of the biggest stars of the 2010s. He ended the decade on an absolute high note, between the blockbuster success of Black Panther (2018) and the acclaimed courtroom drama Just Mercy (2019).

Jordan has been less visible in recent years, with the exception of Creed III (2023), but it looks like the actor is gearing up for a comeback. Deadline has confirmed that he will star in and direct a remake of the classic heist thriller The Thomas Crown Affair. The remake will be released through Amazon MGM Studios, and will be produced by Jordan and Elizabeth Raposo.

Jordan has been attached to the remake since 2021

There have been rumors of a Thomas Crown Affair dating back to 2021. Deadline reported that Wes Tooke was penning a draft of the screenplay with Jordan in mind, but the project seemed to go cold with no further updates. It seems as though Amazon MGM Studios finally cracked the code.

The lineage of The Thomas Crown Affair is illustrious. The original 1968 was a critical and commercial success thanks to the star power of Steve McQueen and Faye Dunaway, as well as the slick direction of Norman Jewison.

The 1999 version was similarly loaded with talent. Pierce Brosnan and Rene Russo took over the lead roles, while John McTiernan, the man who helmed Predator (1987) and Die Hard (1988), took over as director. The remake earned positive reviews from critics and grossed an impressive $124 million on a $48 million budget.

Jordan will be directing for the second time

Michael B. Jordan aligning himself with the likes of Steve McQueen and Pierce Brosnan is a smart move, especially for someone with as much star power. Jordan is taking things a step further, by handling directing duties himself. The Thomas Crown Affair will mark only the second time that Jordan has worked behind the camera, with the first being Creed III.

The Thomas Crown Affair tradition dictates that a leading lady of Jordan's caliber will be needed to balance out the equation, and give the film the romantic spark that it's premise supports. Deadline stated that the search for said leading lady is currently underway. Regardless of who it is, we are excited by the prospect of this remake.
