Where to stream the original Speak No Evil before you watch the remake

The Danish version is not as old as you might think.

Speak No Evil might seem familiar to you. There's a couple reasons why. The first is that theaters have been playing the trailer for the new horror film nonstop. It's become a running joke online, especially given how many months the trailer has been in rotation.

The other reason the premise and title of Speak No Evil may be familiar is because it's a remake of a film that's less than two years old. Hollywood is really narrowing the gap when it comes to remaking popular films from other countries.

The original Speak No Evil was released in 2022

Speak No Evil is a remake of the Danish film Gæsterne, which literally translates to The Guests. The title was altered to, you guessed it, Speak No Evil for the American release, however, where it became something of a critical darling.

Part of what makes the original Speak No Evil so impactful is the way it doles out surprises. The trailer didn't get anything away, and the element of surprise continued to play to the film's benefit up until its final scene (we won't spoil anything here, don't worry).

The trailer for the Speak No Evil remake, which boasts an impressive cast of stars, gives away more than its predecessor did. It remains to be seen how much it varies from the original in terms of what happens between the main characters, but regardless, we suggest seeking out the Danish version.

The film is currently streaming on AMC+

The original Speak No Evil currently sits at 84% on Rotten Tomatoes, with consistent praise across the board for inventiveness and mood. Those are big shoes for the remake to fill, especially given that it has to contend with having most of its unexpected moments being spoiled by a film that came out this decade.

Speak No Evil (2022) is currently available to stream on AMC+ and Philo. A subscription is required for both, but you can sign up for a free trial if you're unsure about committing to a full time payment plan and simply want to watch the film.

Speak No Evil is also available to rent on Apple TV and Fandango at Home. The former has a rental price of $3.99, while the latter goes for $2.99. The film is also available to stream for those who have premium Amazon Prime and YouTube TV accounts.
