The Star Wars fan community got on its feet as soon as reports started circulating that Lucasfilm seems to be preparing a fourth Star Wars spin-off film after Rogue One, Solo, and Lando. The spin-off ball got rolling back in 2015, but in recent times, it has slowed down a bit due to Disney taking more deliberate steps when the whole franchise is in question.

Now, reports started surfacing that both Lucasfilm and Disney have decided to start works on the fourth Star Wars spin-off. It would join already released r Rogue One, and Solo,  with Lando starring Donald Glover already confirmed too.

The rumors were started by Star Wars insider Daniel Richtman, who is quoted as noting the following: "Lucasfilm is discussing a spinoff film to the sequel trilogy. Unclear for which character."

This possibility could possibly raise some controversy within the Star Wars community, as the episodes VII-IX on which the new spin-off is supposed to be based on are not exactly favorites with quite a few fans of the franchise, with not exactly flattering comments continuing to this day.

So far these notions by Richtman and other insiders are neither confirmed or negated, which will only fuel the imagination of the fans, who are already delving into the possible details of the new spin-off.

The key possibility is that the film would fit in somewhere in the existing slate that includes The Mandalorian and Grogu (May 2026), Star Wars: Starfighter (May 2027), and those still in development, including aforementioned Lando (originally supposed to be a streaming show) as well as Dawn of the Jedi and New Republic.

The divisive reception of episodes VII-IX could also raise hopes that the already announced features coming in 2026 and 2027 will redeem some of the reasons for this ongoing division,  and this redemption will sweep over not only the Lando feature confirmed in the works, but also this possible fourth spin-off.

What will be most interesting is to see who Lucasfilm might select to lead this rumored spinoff film. There are many characters from the Sequel Trilogy who could easily lead their own standalone film, but it likely will come down to fan reception for the character and whether Lucasfilm feels they can carve out a big enough story for the character.

With the movie rumored to be in development, we could learn more in the months ahead. However, it's also possible this rumor might not result in anything so we'll have to wait to see.
