Gird your loins, whip out your Chanel boots, and hide your onion bagels: The long-awaited sequel to the critically acclaimed dramedy The Devil Wears Prada officially has a release date.
Based on the novel of the same name, The Devil Wears Prada was originally released on Jun. 30, 2006. It follows Andy Sachs (Anne Hathaway,) an aspiring writer who lands a job as a personal assistant to a high-profile fashion editor (Meryl Streep.) According to People, the sequel was officially announced back in July 2024 with no confirmed updates since then.
Now, nearly two decades after the world loved to hate the Queen of Mean editor-in-chief Miranda Priestly, Disney has finally confirmed details about the production of The Devil Wears Prada 2, and the internet has been losing its mind ever since.
Here’s everything we know about the film so far.
What’s The Devil Wears Prada 2 About?
According to Variety, The Devil Wears Prada 2 will follow the Runway Editor-In-Chief as she “navigates her career amid the decline of traditional magazine publishing,” which is pretty relevant to today’s society.
It will be interesting to see how the queen of print fairs against the uprising of fashion influencers and the digital age. Variety also reports that we can expect to see a battle between Priestly and her beloved assistant Emily (Emily Blunt), who has moved up in the world and now has access to keys that will play a role in her ex-boss's success or failure.
This conflict provides a clever shift to the duo’s dynamic: Will Emily use her newfound position to her advantage and pay Miranda back for all of the pain and humiliation she endured as her assistant? Only time will tell.
Meryl Streep Confirmed To Reprise Her Iconic Role
Although most of the cast has yet to be confirmed, the good news is: We can expect Meryl Streep to reprise her role as the iconic Miranda Priestly. The film's synopsis suggests the re-emergence of Emily Blunt’s character, but co-stars Anne Hathaway and Stanley Tucci have yet to officially sign on to the project.
Both Hathaway and Tucci have expressed interest in a reunion, with Tucci saying he’d “happily” reprise his role as Nigel. How Andy and Nigel will fit into The Devil Wears Prada 2 has yet to be determined, but with the original crew reportedly returning for the sequel, including writer Aline Brosh McKenna and director David Frankel, it's safe to say the story would be in good hands.
The Devil Wears Prada 2 is slated to release in theaters on May 1, 2026.
