We'll probably need to wait until Thanksgiving for The Fantastic Four: First Steps to head to streaming

Disney wants to keep Marvel movies in theaters for as long as possible.

Theatrical releases head to streaming platforms eventually, especially when it comes to Marvel movies. The Fantastic Four: First Steps is the latest MCU release, and we’re all ready to check it out from home.

As a Marvel movie, there is only one streaming home to start with. It could eventually move from there, but that’s highly unlikely! And not only do we know which streaming home this Fantastic Four reboot will have, but we know roughly when it will arrive.

The Fantastic Four: First Steps will head to Disney’s platform

It’s all about Disney+ when it comes to Marvel movies. That’s where you can watch all previous MCU movies and TV shows, as Disney owns Marvel now. It's also where The Fantastic Four: First Steps will go first.

There have been times that the movies have headed to other platforms under a non-exclusive license, such as The First Avenger and Winter Soldier heading to STARZ in the past, but it’s rare that this happens, and it takes years for that.

The Fantastic Four’s reboot is likely to be on Disney+ in November

We’ll probably have to wait until Thanksgiving, though. This is good timing for those who want to watch the movie at home, because the family will be gathered around. It’s just a long time to wait.

We’re basing this off the releases of a few other Marvel movies recently, such as Deadpool & Wolverine and Captain America: Brave New World. In fact, it’s not just about Marvel movies, but also about the big Disney releases, as Inside Out 2 also took its time to head to Disney+. All of these movies took around four months, as Disney at least wants to follow the 90-day exclusivity for theaters now that release patterns have fallen back into some normalcy after the pandemic. In most cases, we’re waiting 100+ days so that as many people head to theaters as possible.

This takes us to around Thanksgiving. We may even need to wait just a little longer, taking us into the beginning of December. We know that The Fantastic Four: First Steps should be on Disney+ by Christmas at the latest.

When could The Fantastic Four: First Steps head to Digital?

A Digital release is going to happen before a streaming release. This is when you buy the license to watch the movie as much as you want on a digital platform, such as iTunes, Amazon, or Google Play. It took Thunderbolts* around two months to go from theaters to Digital, so we’re expecting something similar here.

That takes us to the end of September. As Digital releases happen on Tuesdays, we’re looking at either Tuesday, Sept. 23 or Tuesday, Sept. 30 as a Digital release date.

The Fantastic Four: First Steps is currently out in theaters.
