The title The Super Mario Galaxy Movie pays homage to Nintendo’s classic game, Super Mario Galaxy, which was originally released in 2007 for the Wii. The announcement was made during a Nintendo Direct presentation on Friday, Sept. 12, marking the beginning of the countdown to the 40th anniversary of the original Super Mario Bros. game, released on September 13, 1985.

It features Mario napping under a tree, Princess Peach’s castle in the distance, and a camera that zooms all the way up to outer space. Quick cameos from Monty Mole burrowing, Cheep-Cheeps swimming, and Toads scurrying around reminded everyone that the Mushroom Kingdom is still vibrant and chaotic.
