It now feels like everything has a post-credit scene, so it’s only natural to make sure the latest movie you’re watching doesn’t have one.The Thursday Murder Clubis the most recent release on Netflix, and it’s surely just the start of a franchise.

With multiple books following the group of retirement home-living sleuths by Richard Osman, it’s only natural to wonder if something is going to set up the next story. That’s often what a lot of post-credit scenes are used for now, as they’re not as intricate as the MCU teases of a bigger story to come.

You don’t need to stick around for the whole credits inThe Thursday Murder Club

Not everything needs a post-credit scene, and we’re somewhat thankful to say thatThe Thursday Murder Club’s Chris Columbus seems to agree. The director has opted not to add a post-credit scene, either midway through the credits or at the very end.

The story finishes with us finding out where the group of sleuths are situated after the turn of events throughout the movie. Bonds were made, and futures were written, and we’re left with a touch of hope for the future for all of them.

In a great way, the movie is set up as a standalone. That way, if the second book isn’t adapted into a movie, it doesn’t feel like we’re missing out on anything. There’s a sense of finality withinThe Thursday Murder Clubin the way that so many movies of the ‘80s and ‘90s ended.

Will there be a sequel toThe Thursday Murder Club?

Richard Osman has certainly developed a world for our new favorite sleuths. They return to solve more crimes in the sequel novelThe Man Who Died Twice. There are also other books, wth another one coming out in September 2025.

That’s great, but what about Netflix movies? With no post-credit scene, there’s no indication as to whether there is a planned sequel. That’s because, as of writing this, there isn’t a plan to adapt the second book just yet. This doesn’t mean there won’t be, but Netflix hasn’t greenlit the project.

It’s not surprising that Netflix has held back on this. The Thursday Murder Clubis a quirky, British crime drama, perfect for fans of an Agatha Christie murder mystery. This isn’t for everyone, and Netflix will likely want to make sure the first movie is a hit before confirming the franchise. What I can see is Netflix greenlighting the sequel (and more) very soon!

The Thursday Murder Clubis available to stream on Netflix.
