Miranda Cosgrove, who is set to star in an iCarly movie soon, according to Cosmopolitan, just starred in another film that held the number three spot for new movies on Netflix. Could The Wrong Paris be Cosgrove’s new comeback role?
Cosgrove’s most recent appearances included a reboot of the iCarly television series, which was cancelled by Paramount+ far too soon for fans, and Mother of the Bride on Netflix, which received very underwhelming ratings on Rotten Tomatoes. As a fan of Miranda Cosgrove from her Drake and Josh days, I was excited to see her on the big screen yet again, but this time playing an adult in a romantic comedy. It’s time that we see Cosgrove shine in a different light. Is The Wrong Paris a movie to play this week, or pass?

In The Wrong Paris, the main character, Dawn, gets accepted into the renowned Academic d’art in Paris, but funds are scarce to pay for tuition and travel. Dawn’s sister comes up with a plot to help her get there—a reality show called The Honey Pot, filmed in Paris. The premise of the show is Bachelor-style: an eligible bachelor goes on dates to find “the one”, but his final choice gets to decide if she wants the cash prize or the guy.
Yvonne Orji (Pop the Balloon and Insecure) plays the casting director of the reality show, Rachel, who is secretly rooting for Dawn to join the cast. The movie sprinkles in a few jabs at actual reality dating shows. For example, Rachel’s casting partner in the movie says, “I’d like contestants with huge social media followings to help us boost our tanking viewership”. This sort of thinking could be why Rachel wants Dawn to get the role—she’s a small town girl who is seemingly not in it for the fame.

After what feels like a failed audition, Dawn runs into a cowboy at a bar. We also get a surprise cameo from reality star, Harry Jowsey (Too Hot to Handle and Perfect Match). Dawn and the handsome cowboy share a dance together, and they have the kind of chemistry that would make reality daters jealous. Too bad she’s so focused on getting to Paris—she leaves the bar without so much as a goodbye or a phone number.
Spoiler: Much to Dawn's surprise, she gets cast for the dating show. We think Rachel had a lot to do with this decision. However, much to her disappointment, Dawn and the other cast members deboard the plane to find out they’ve been circling their own state for the past nine hours, and instead of landing at Charles de Gaulle in Paris, they land in a deserted strip of land called Paris, Texas. Looks like the bachelorettes have been duped!

Another spoiler: It turns out the “Honey” of the show is the cowboy Dawn danced with at the bar— but I think we all saw that coming! When producers catch wind that the two know each other, they consider cutting Dawn from the show, but her hard-to-get and uninterested demeanor makes her even more desirable for the Honey.
The producers agree to keep Dawn on the show, and her whole approach changes when she finds out she can win more money by being chosen to go on dates with the cow’beau’. Then, she can leave the show, and use the money to go to Paris, France. What lengths will Dawn go to for a few thousand more dollars in her pocket? Or will she risk her dreams in Paris for a shot at love?

The verdict: Press play on the Wrong Paris this week
The Wrong Paris is the romantic comedy we all needed to kickstart the fall. The theme is western, but the concept is fun, light, and relatable. The plot of the movie will keep you guessing, and doesn’t have the same predictability that critics used to describeThe Mother of the Bride. Whether you’re lucky in love, or still waiting for the one, this movie will knock your boots off.
The Wrong Paris is now streaming on Netflix.
