Timothee Chalamet is on pace to have a historic 2024. The actor already headlined one of the biggest films of the year with Dune: Part Two, and come the holidays, he will star in A Complete Unknown, a Bob Dylan biopic touted to earn him a second Oscar nomination.

Chalamet has the highest profile and the best resume of any actor in his age range, and it looks as though he's going to be adding to it in 2025. The actor is currently in production on the film Marty Supreme, a biopic about ping pong champion Marty Reisman.

Deadline confirms that the film is being produced by A24 and AFM, and with a budget between $70-90 million, it will represent the most expensive joint production in A24's history. This is notable for a couple of reasons. For one, A24 has made a joint of increasing its budgets in recent years, and striving to connect with wider audiences.

Civil War, Alex Garland's controversial drama, had a budget of $50 million in 2024, making it the previous record holder for most expensive A24 release. The film managed to gross $100 million, making it the second most profitable in the studio's history.

Marty Supreme is an attempt to up the ante. The film boasts a stellar cast and an acclaimed director in the form of Josh Safdie. It also features an underdog story and a 1940s time period that likely has a lot to do with the increased budget.

For Chalamet, this historic A24 budget represents a vote of confidence. The actor proved he could draw a crowd with Dune: Part Two, which grossed over $700 million at the global box office. He's also set to score another hit with A Complete Unknown, a crowd-pleasing biopic from the director who helped to kick off the modern biopic craze, James Mangold.

Marty Supreme will be an important release for both A24 and Chalamet, and it'll be fascinating to see if both can stick the landing as more details about the film are made available.
