Netflix consistently releases groundbreaking original movies, many of which possess the potential to evolve into franchises of their own. Here are eight recent titles worthy of sequels.

Netflix has grown from a startup that mailed DVDs to your home to a cultural phenomenon as the streamer produces some of the most unique titles. Their original content has grown over the years and attracted more and more A-list Hollywood actors and directors. Below is a list of some of their best movies that we think could use a second installment, so we can either find out what happened to our favorite characters or just immerse ourselves into the worlds they created one more time.

8. They Cloned Tyrone (2023)

Teyonah Parris, Jamie Foxx, and John Boyega turned the sci-fi genre on its head with They Cloned Tyrone. The story centered around a ghetto mid-level city used as a staging post for scientific experimentation. Its' townspeople became the subjects, docile and completely oblivious to it all. Nothing is amiss to anyone until Tyrone (Boyega) starts digging around. He uncovers a conspiracy involving clones, including the conclusion that he, too, is someone else's replacement.

They Cloned Tyrone ends on a cliffhanger that more suggests a sequel is coming. The scene in question opens to another Tyrone clone, except he lives in Los Angeles, California. He's far away from the other huge mess, meaning LA is another staging post. And while we don't know with certainty, it's logical that a sequel be set on a grander stage. What better place to set up a social experiment than in one of California's most popular cities?

7. Bright (2017)

Will Smith always excels in whatever he does. There's a reason that Smith went from the little up-and-comer on Fresh Prince of Bel Air to starring in various franchises, and that level of skill is showcased in Bright.

The supernatural thriller from acclaimed director David Ayer is set around two Los Angeles-based police officers who discover a magic wand while on patrol. It leads to all sorts of havoc that finally culminates with the magical artifact returned to where it belongs. Ward (Smith) and Jakoby (Edgerton) are thankfully cleared of all charges, but after coming into contact with a wand, there's no turning back. Plus, Jakoby can't forget the fact that Ward being a "Bright" is like a one in a million chance. With that said, there's potential to build off of Ward's story in future films. He could either be sought after to aim another stolen wand, or perhaps the Elf community won't want a random Bright out in the world. They're meticulous and understanding of how Ward could stop one of their operations in its tracks; all of which deserves to be explored in a sequel.

6. Project Power

Superhuman abilities are all the rage nowadays, especially in sci-fi projects like Project Power. The thriller starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Jamie Foxx centers around the pair's respective characters stopping a drug epidemic from hitting the streets. As the strings unravel, the Major (Foxx) discovers his daughter is at the source, not by choice, though. The Major launches a successful rescue takedown, and everyone rides off into the sunset together. There are, however, several questions surrounding what'll happen to the illicit substance now that it can no longer be manufactured. And when addicts lose their source for acquiring substances, things turn sour rather quickly. Such a turn in the social order could be perfect content for a sequel.

5. Leave the World Behind (2023)

The Julia Roberts, Mahershala Ali, and Ethan Hawke apocalyptic thriller ended on a major cliffhanger as the bombs had just exploded in New York City. So, how bad did it really get, and how do our main characters respond to the impending nuclear winter? They could pick up with a 10 Cloverfield Lane type of bunker situation or venture out into the ruins like in 'The Road'. We're not saying this would be a feel-good sequel, but the chemistry between the talented performers warrants another entry.

4. Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery (2022)

We can never get enough of Daniel Craig with his southern drawl as Benoit Blanc, right? The first two Knives Out movies have been terrific whodunits with wide-ranging ensembles of interesting characters. The murders and motives are unique and well disguised while each character has their own motivation for doing the deed. It has been a launching pad for performers like Ana de Armas and great opportunities to gather an eclectic group of veterans like Ed Norton, Jamie Lee Curtis, Michael Shannon, and Janelle Monáe.

3. Carry-On (2024)

Jason Bateman has never been better than as the diabolical villain in this movie from the streamer released in 2024. We rarely get to see the actor in a role other than the straight man with a dry, deadpan sense of humor. But the sequel would follow Taron Egerton's TSA character, Ethan Kopek, who has just foiled The Traveler's plan and has received a promotion. He and his wife have just welcomed their first child into the world. We'd be on board to see another airport thriller focusing on a blue-collar guy who we have all had our own interesting experiences with, trying to get on a flight on time.

2. Hustle (2022)

Remember when Adam Sandler became the first really A-list, bankable star to sign an exclusive deal with Netflix for a handful of movies, and we all scoffed like it was career suicide? Well, it has turned out just fine for the funnyman who has turned heads with his dramatic chops in movies like Uncut Gems and the fantastic basketball dramedy Hustle. We want to see where Stanley Beren is now. Take us to another unlikely locale halfway around the world so he can find an even bigger diamond in the rough that will make his way to America and change the NBA.

1. Okja (2017)

The world was introduced to the artistic genius Bong Joon-Ho when Okja landed on the streamer eight years ago. The fantastical story of Mija and her homegrown "pig" is both spellbinding and awe-inspiring in its structure and storylines. The world needs heartening stories like this right now, and any excuse to get the South Korean Parasite, Snowpiercer, and Mickey 17 director behind the camera feels like a must. Hopefully, we will get to catch up with Mija and Okja and go on another adventure with them.
