Star Wars fans who are up to date with Disney's projects may have felt Skeleton Crew was a bit underwhelming for their liking, but there's a good reason to remain invested in the fictional sci-fi universe.

Rather than develop a fourth season of The Mandalorian, Disney has converted it into a feature-length film. The company's decision was controversial, although it will appeal to fans in the long run since they'll get to watch the new chapter all at once.

Grogu and The Mandalorian is scheduled for release in May 2026, leaving a little more than a year before its premiere.

The billion-dollar studio has yet to debut a teaser, so fans can expect to see one within the next six months. It's a bit of a wait.

As far as what the teaser would include—it's a bit more complicated than once thought. Since the pair of heroes were left sitting pretty at the end of Season 3, the next event will have to be something that pulls them from their veritable utopia. Perhaps a mercenary or New Order faction comes searching for Din's kid. Moff Gideon (Giancarlo Esposito) wasn't the only person trying to profit off Grogu. And then, with word of the child in the wind, hunters will come out of the woodwork. One bounty hunter, however, would be on the Mandalorian clan's side.

While the character's return to the Star Wars galaxy turned out underwhelming, Boba Fett (Temeura Morrison) made his principles known when faced with the opportunity to either rule with an iron thumb or care for those under his charge. The former bounty hunter could've remained true to his profession's cause, only intervening once trouble affected his wealth, except he chose to place his life on the line for individuals he once would've considered canon fodder. The Book of Boba Fett showed Fett in this new light, setting him on a different path.

So, if Morrison makes an appearance, he'll presumably enter as an ally to Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) and Grogu. The pair can call on their Mandalorian friends living on Nevarro, although an army on Mando's side would end any conflict nearly immediately. As that is, they'll be written out of the story to make the fight more believable.

Mind you, Bo-Katan (Katee Sackhoff) has become one of the show's highlights. That means it's unlikely that Disney will kill her off before the adventure begins. The only plausible scenario is that Grogu, Din, and Bo-Katan get paired up for the new mission while their clan brethren are captured or killed. The Armorer is an exception, considering how much of the story hinges on her narrating the events during quiet moments.

We still have to wait and see what Disney produces for Grogu and The Mandalorian's teaser because it may hold more content than expected, or perhaps it'll be a few quick shots teasing a devastating adventure. The latter option seems plausible when the shock factor would skyrocket upon learning that things changed dramatically. Whatever the case, fans are on the edge of their seats in anticipation.

Grogu and The Mandalorian releases on May 22, 2026.
