Will Juror #2 be Clint Eastwood's final film? The director's plans, explained
There will never be another Clint Eastwood. He made his screen debut in 1955, and his directorial debut in 1971. He's an action icon and an Oscar winner. He's made genre-defining masterpieces and crowd-pleasing blockbusters. And he's rumored to be releasing his swan song, Juror #2, in 2024.
Juror #2 marks Eastwood's first directorial effort since 2021, and while some of attention has gone to the film's controversial theatrical rollout, most of the discussion has revolved around the director and his future plans. Eastwood is 94 years old, a decade plus older than some of the other masters who are praised for their maintained excellence.
Eastwood has not announced retirement plans
If Juror #2 did prove to be his final film, it would make perfect sense. The thing is, nobody seems convinced that it will be. Jason Moore, Eastwood's longtime producer, told Deadline that nothing has been set in stone with regards to retirement:
"At 94 years old, he’s still making films. I’ve been with him for 23 years. I always said I’d retire before he did and I haven’t retired yet."
Furthermore, World of Reel alleged that Eastwood has already begun looking for his next film. A source told the outlet that the director has no intention to slow down, and that he will tell stories for as long as he's physically and mentally capable.
Eastwood is alleged to be eyeing new projects
"Clint’s a workaholic and he’s already looking at scripts for a possible next movie," the source alleged. "He had a great time making this one and wants to continue on." Granted, Clint Eastwood would have to consider the complications of being insured to direct a final film, given his advanced age.
It's also worth noting that Eastwood's last few releases, Richard Jewell (2019) and Cry Macho (2021), underperformed at the box office. There's also the Juror #2 complications, and the allegations that have been leveled at Warner Bros. for trying to bury the film.
It would be incredible to see Eastwood churn out another film, but if he does not, then we hope that Juror #2 is given the theatrical rollout that it deserves.
