Another week is here, and you’re probably looking for something to watch. Isn’t that the thing when you get in from work? The good news is the streaming services like Netflix and Prime Video have plenty of movies to watch throughout the week.
It doesn’t matter if you want horror, fantasy, a book adaptation, or something in between. There are movies on Netflix and streaming for the whole family, and there are those that you’ll want to watch once the kids are in bed.
Not sure where to start? We have you covered with our top five picks, with everything in release date order to make it easy to find.
Maintenance Required
If you’re in the mood for a romantic comedy, then you’ll want to check out Maintenance Required. Sure, it’s October, and that should mean horror, but not everyone is into that genre. The latest Prime Video movie follows Charlie, the owner of an all-female mechanic shop who finds herself struggling with the latest news.
A flashy corporate competitor is opening a shop across the street from her. As she struggles to deal with what this could mean for her independent business, she turns to someone online. This is a person she’s never met, and what she doesn’t realize is that she’s confiding in the rival threatening her business.
Think of this as You’ve Got Mail, but with a bit of a modern-day twist.
Maintenance Required is on Prime Video on Wednesday, Oct. 8.
Stay
Not to be confused with the 2005 movie of the same name, Stay is an upcoming horror movie that is perfect for those looking for something a little creepier. It follows a couple that has broken up, both blaming each other for the end of their marriage.
When the movers turn up, the two find themselves trapped in the house that they shared. A dark spirit is holding them hostage until they learn what it wants them to learn. They'll need to face the darkness of their pasts, and they'll certainly want to stay together through this if they can. What will it take for them to leave?
Stay is coming to Hulu on Wednesday, Oct. 8.
The Woman in Cabin 10
Kiera Knightley is back, and this time she stars in a movie adaptation of The Woman in Cabin 10 by Ruth Ware. In the movie, she is a journalist on a cruise ship when someone goes overboard. Only, she learns that there was never anyone in the cabin that she saw someone fall from.
This leads to everyone questioning what she has seen. As it is clear nobody believes her, she needs to figure out if she just saw things that night, or whether there is some bigger conspiracy on this luxury cruise.
The Woman in Cabin 10 is on Netflix on Friday, Oct. 10.
John Candy: I Like Me
For the documentary fans out there, you’ll want to check out the newest one this week. John Candy: I Like Me looks into the life and times of the titular actor. John Candy was beloved by many, and you’ve likely seen movies with him in it. Whether it’s Cool Runnings, Home Alone, or even Planes, Trains, and Automobiles, Candy won hearts and always played someone different but relatable.
His sudden passing shocked many, and it’s something that is talked about throughout the documentary. After all, it looks at the man behind the camera. Like so many others, while he made everyone else smile, there was a darker underbelly to the business.
John Candy: I Like Me is on Prime Video on Friday, Oct. 10.
How to Train Your Dragon
Now for something for the whole family. The live-action How to Train Your Dragon is finally available to stream online. Yes, you took the kids to see it in theaters, but now you can watch it over and over again on a streaming platform.
I don’t think it needs any introduction, but for those who don’t know, the movie follows Hiccup, a Viking, who is the son of the leader of the clan. He’s supposed to be a great warrior, but he’s anything but. When he goes out of his way to try to prove that he can kill a dragon, he realizes that training one could be better, and that leads to a much bigger discovery.
How to Train Your Dragon is on Peacock on Friday, Oct. 10.
