It's been nearly two years since the first half of Fast X debuted in theaters, and without a concrete update, the situation feels full of uncertainty. Typically, when a blockbuster sequel of this magnitude is delayed so long, it's shelved indefinitely. Such was the case with Spider-Man 4 and The Amazing Spider-Man 3, as well as a planned follow-up to 2016's Ghostbusters starring Melissa McCarthy and Kristen Wiig. That's probably not the case with Fast X due to how much Universal Pictures has invested in the franchise. Nevertheless, fans can't shake the feeling that Fast X: Part Two won't hit theaters until 2027 at the earliest.

Whether it does or doesn't, filming appears to be underway. Vin Diesel recently posted a self-shot video of himself test-driving a Charger on a racetrack to Instagram. Fans will recognize this car as Dom Toretto's vehicle of choice in the franchise, so to see him back in the driver's seat likely means production has resumed on the second half of Fast X. The self-shot video isn't a marketing ploy for the film—as far as we know—but there's a large enough film crew present to suggest that it's a studio-sanctioned event.

One thing worth mentioning is that Vin Diesel intends to shoot the remainder of Fast X in Los Angeles. He posted to Instagram that the "Fast franchise will return home," indicating where the rest of the plot is set. Bear in mind that part of the story happens elsewhere.

To recap, Fast X: Part One concluded with Letty (Michelle Rodriguez) and Cipher (Charlize Theron) getting rescued by the believed-to-be-deceased Gisele (Gal Gadot). They appeared stuck on a remote ice shelf in Antarctica until the Fast and Furious alum arrived in a submarine, granting them a reprieve.

While Gisele doesn't possess speaking lines, her return suggests that her death in Fast and Furious 6 was exaggerated. It is beneficial for continuity and canon consistency, as audiences didn't see a body or definitive death onscreen—the runway events were all implied. Without visual confirmation, story writers can reasonably suggest that Gisele survived somehow.

The rest of Fast X: Part Two will presumably reunite the remaining cast in Los Angeles for a climactic showdown with Dante (Jason Momoa). Their numbers are dwindling, but this is to be expected with the franchise wrapping up. Audiences anticipated some casualties along the way, and the Fast family's losses validate said claim.

The final chapter concluded with Tej (Ludacris), Roman (Tyrese Gibson), and Ramsey (Nathalie Emannuel) seemingly dying after Aimes (Alan Ritchson) betrayed them. Furthermore, the last gathering will be much smaller than expected.

As it stands, the remaining clan includes Dom (Vin Diesel), Little B, Letty, Han (Sung Kang), Gisele, Mia (Jordana Brewster), and the Shaws—they're part of the family now. Jakob (John Cena) should be there, but Part One also saw him sacrifice himself to give Dom and Little B a chance. This brings the casualty number up to five—assuming the resulting plane crash was as fatal as it seemed.

Odds are, though, Tej and the others survived. A story centered around "family" can't end with the Fast and Furious crew entirely broken. There has to be a happily-ever-after; it's simply that type of narrative.

Fast X: Part Two is scheduled for release in 2026.
