Esteemed actor, Jim Carrey (How the Grinch Stole Christmas) and director, Colin Trevorrow (Jurassic World: Dominion), have confirmed plans to revive The Jetsons in a live-action movie, though Warner Bros. has not given an official statement of what that will look like.
Variety states that the last feature film for The Jetsons occurred in 1990—how ironic that a show with some of the most futuristic themes of its time is now considered a throwback! If fans are lucky, maybe history will repeat itself! Or rather, the future will catch up to the past?
In any case, Jim Carrey is the perfect choice to lead this script. Millennials and Gen Xers would probably agree that Carrey is one of the G.O.A.T.s of comedy. Carrey has ranged from starring in roles for rated R films like My, Myself and Irene to family-friendly movies like How the Grinch Stole Christmas and Sonic the Hedgehog. If you’ve been following Carrey even longer, you remember his early days on In Living Color, where he played a variety of characters and became known for his hilarious facial expressions and voice effects.
Carrey is no stranger to comedy and knows what it takes to bring cartoons and live-action tales to life. Fans can certainly trust Carrey and Trevorrow to produce a great film, especially one as iconic as The Jetsons.

Why The Jetsons?
The Jetsons holds so much history as a cartoon show. According to Cord Cutters News, The Jetsons was the first program to be broadcast in color on ABC. Not only this, but The Jetsons gave Americans the cookie-cutter life of a family living happily well into the 21st century.
Most of the futuristic shows and movies available now have dystopian rather than utopian themes, so I think The Jetsons reminds us of the society we wish existed. A boost of utopian bliss could do our hearts some good in such an unpredictable era.

What might viewers hope to see in a live-action reboot of The Jetsons?
The Jetsons are such a well-put-together family, showcasing a successful nuclear unit living an uber-modern life (even for us in 2025!). However, most critics would say the show could use some diversity and representation if a reboot is to be successful.
Matt Novak from the Smithsonian Magazine made a similar claim: “…we have to ask ourselves how our expectations might have changed with subtle tweaks to the Jetson story. What if George took a flying bus or monorail instead of a flying car? What if Jane Jetson worked outside of the home? What if the show had a single African-American character? These questions are impossible to answer, of course, but they’re important to recall as we examine this show that so dramatically shaped our understanding of tomorrow.”
As a fan of Carrey, Trevorrow, and The Jetsons, I am hopeful that the movie could bring a fresh new perspective to a childhood classic. Modern themes mixed with the same positive vibes and humor would be a plus! I'm also curious to see how the movie could make light of changes we're seeing in present-day scientific discoveries.

Will The Jetsons see box office success?
With only one original season, The Jetsons made a historic mark in the living rooms of families across the country. Deadline reports that it was revived for 51 more episodes about 20 years after its original release. The post also reports that Carrey has grossed over $6 billion worldwide from all of his box office hits.
If he is behind production of a live-action movie of The Jetsons, there is no doubt it will be a box office success. But if it’s not, it will probably be the last we see of reboots for The Jetsons. Seeing The Jetsons in Space Jam: A New Legacy could be an Easter egg to confirm what’s to come!
