It looks like another instalment of A Quiet Place is coming. John Krasinski has announced that he will return to the world of noise-sensitive aliens with the upcoming A Quiet Place Part III. The horror sequel is scheduled to hit theaters on July 9, 2027.
The four-time Primetime Emmy-nominated actor has announced that he is returning to direct, write, and produce the sequel after taking a step back for 2024's A Quiet Place: Day One. He directed the first two films in this successful franchise, which has grossed over $900 million worldwide across its three films.
The first A Quiet Place stunned audiences when it debuted in SXSW in 2018 and would go on to take $341 million globally. The post-apocalyptic film centered on a family trying to survive in a world inhabited by blind aliens with highly sensitive hearing. It starred Kransinski alongside his real-life wife Emily Blunt, Noah Jupe, and Millicent Simmonds. The second movie was released in 2021 and crossed nearly $300 million globally.
Last year, Krasinski stepped down as a writer and director on the spinoff A Quiet Place: Day One. Filmmaker Michael Sarnoski directed the prequel which showed the alien invasion and starred Lupita Nyong’o and Joseph Quinn.
The third sequel has long been teased by Krasinski and Paramount. The filmmaker announced a third film was coming in 2022, but that didn’t come to fruition. Currently, no cast or plot has been announced, although Krasinski confirmed his return and the release date through an Instagram post. Fans are guessing the family will return to try to stay alive, although there is no mention of whether Blunt, Jupe or Simmonds are returning or if the director will make an on-screen appearance.
Known for his breakout role as Jim on NBC’s The Office, John Krasinski recently directed the family fantasy film If, which starred Ryan Reynolds. His last starring role was alongside Natalie Portman in Apple’s poorly received Fountain of Youth.
The Quiet Place franchise may make money at the box office, but the audience’s reaction to it is mixed. Many believe the sequels failed to match the originality or thrills, while others notice the inconsistency with the creatures. Where else can they realistically go with the concept, and why have they not already worked out a way to mass defeat the aliens? I guess we’ll have to wait until next summer to see it.
