While there are plenty of great movies available on streaming this weekend, there are also some great reasons to leave the house and head to the theaters. While a lot is made about the fate of the movie-going industry, there is nothing quite like experiencing a great movie in theaters with a captivated audience.

This week sees a nice variety of movies in the cinemas that are worth your time, along with a title you are better off skipping. There are some big titles with big names among the new releases this week, as well as some great movies still in theaters. From big-budget blockbusters to small indies, these are the notable titles in theaters this week.

New in theaters - Tron: Ares

Tron is one of those sci-fi franchises that doesn’t seem to ever go away. While it is not as iconic as Star Wars or Planet of the Apes, it has maintained a strong following over the years, from its original groundbreaking movie from 1982 to its underrated and long-awaited sequel, Tron: Legacy.

Tron: Ares is the latest in the franchise, bringing the virtual video game world of the other movies into the real world. Jared Leto leads the movie as Ares, an advanced artificial intelligence program brought to life as the ultimate soldier. Along with franchise newcomers Greta Lee and Evan Peters, Jeff Bridges returns as Kevin Flynn.

New in theaters - Roofman

Channing Tatum returns to the big screen in this true-crime story that is more light-hearted than we typically see from the genre. Tatum stars as Jefferson Manchester, a real-life criminal who earned a reputation for breaking into McDonald's through the roof and managed to evade arrest by secretly living in a local Toys R’ Us store.

Though writer-director Derek Cianfrance is best known for heavy dramas, like Blue Valentine and The Place Beyond the Pines, Roofman embraces the absurdity of the true story while also adding in some unexpected warmth through its complicated protagonist. Roofman also stars Kirsten Dunst, LaKeith Stanfield, and Peter Dinklage.

Still in theaters – One Battle After Another

While One Battle After Another has already been in theaters for several weeks, it remains one of the best movie-going experiences right now. Whether you have yet to check it out or are ready to revisit it, the Paul Thomas Anderson masterpiece is certainly worth a trip to the theaters. In fact, FlickSided’s own review of One Battle After Another named it one of the best movies of the year.

One Battle After Another is the perfect movie for the big screen with exciting action and non-stop momentum. It is also hilarious, with amazing performances that will almost certainly be talked about during awards season. However, it is also a poignant story that is particularly relevant in today's world.

Skip in theaters - Anemone

A smaller movie coming this week still contains one of the most anticipated performances of the year. After apparently announcing his retirement in 2017, Daniel Day-Lewis returns for his latest performance in the drama Anemone. Day-Lewis stars as a reclusive and troubled man living in the woods when he is visited by his estranged brother (Sean Bean).

The movie is directed by Day-Lewis’s own son, Ronan Day-Lewis, helping explain why the three-time Oscar-winning actor chose to return for this project. Unfortunately, while the legendary actor's performance has been hailed as a welcome return, the reviews suggest that the overall movie does not match Day-Lewis's brilliance.
