Another week is here, and for those who are into broadcast TV, it’s a big one. CBS Premiere Week is here, and that could mean that you’re limited on time to watch movies on Netflix and streaming.
What if you need to escape the broadcast networks? What if Netflix and streaming platforms are all that you have? Well, you’ll want to check out the many movies on offer between Monday, Oct. 13 and Sunday, Oct. 19.
That can be a lot to work through, so again, we’ve checked out the lists and brought the top picks. These cover multiple genres to make sure there’s something for you. Everything is in release date order, to make it easier to decide when you’re going to watch a release.
Cocaine Bear
One of the craziest movies of 2023 had to be the horror comedy Cocaine Bear. Did we really think a movie about a coked-up bear was going to hit well? In the end, it was a huge success, and there’s no doubt that you want to check it out. It’s on the move to a new streaming platform this week, and you’ll want to get your Peacock membership in order.
Cocaine Bear is loosely based on a true story. When a black bear consumes a crazy amount of cocaine accidentally, it ends up on a rampage that nobody has ever seen before. Now, wildlife, cops, criminals, and more are in danger.
Cocaine Bear is on Peacock on Tuesday, Oct. 14.
Don’t Breathe
How about an actual horror movie? I recommend Don’t Breathe, which follows a group of teenagers who think it’s a good idea to break into a man’s house. This man is a blind, so it should be an easy mission to get in, steal a major cash settlement he won, and get out, right?
Well, the blind man is also a veteran, and he’s not afraid to use his skills to protect his home. He’s also a man who is grieving the death of his only child, and that’s what the cash settlement is from. Suddenly, the group of teenagers go from being predators to prey, and now they need to find a way out without making a sound.
Don’t Breathe is on Peacock on Tuesday, Oct. 15.
I Know What You Did Last Summer
We’ll stick with horror movies for a while. After all, it is the scariest month of the year! This release is something that a lot of ‘90s horror fans will want to check out. Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr. return as Julie and Ray in I Know What You Did Last Summer.
Like with the Scream franchise, the movie picks up with the same timeline as we’ve had in the real world. Now a new group of teens have ended up killing a man and hiding the body, and there’s a new Fisherman looking to get revenge for what they did last summer.
I Know What You Did Last Summer is on Netflix on Thursday, Oct. 16.
The Cabin in the Woods
Prefer something from the past? The Cabin in the Woods is one of those horror movies that helps to turn many of the tropes on their heads. The people you think will survive (because they always do) don’t, and the real villains are people you wouldn’t initially expect to see.
The ending of the movie is my favorite part for twisting the tropes. I’m sure you’ve seen it, but I don’t want to go into details in case you haven’t. Make sure you watch this cabin horror flick once just to see how horror can be done in an entertaining way.
The Cabin in the Woods is on Hulu on Thursday, Oct. 16.
Culpa Nuestra
We end with a romance movie, and it’s the third in the Culpa series. This time, it’s Culpa Nuestra, which translates to Our Fault. If you haven’t seen the first two movies, make sure you catch up on them before heading into this third release.
Culpa Nuestra picks up four years after Nick and Noah break up. They end up reuniting at Jenna’s wedding to Lion, and plenty of feelings come back up. Can their love trump all, or will Noah’s spite win out?
Culpa Nuestra is coming to Prime Video on Thursday, Oct. 16.
