Will it be a dream or a nightmare for all the fans of the eighties classic The Goonies? The scene is set - Warner Bros is developing The Goonies reboot, and  Steven Spielberg is set to produce, but Josh Brolin, one of the original’s key stars, is, as he puts it, in “trepidation” about this reboot, as he doesn’t want to “taint” the memory he has of it.

As he told in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Brolin approaches the making of The Goonies 2 with mixed feelings.

“I hope it does (happen) because the experience was so great. The movie is received so well, generation after generation. It’s just everything good about it. The trepidation that I have is that you release something else that taints that. I don’t want to taint what my memory of it [is].”

So, why does Brolin seem both enthusiastic and worried at the same time about the continuation of The Goonies saga some 40 years or so on? Well, first of all, on the personal side of things, Brolin, who played the key role of Brad Walsh in the original was only 16 at the time, and has same very fond memories of the film and his role, the one that was the one that propelled him to the star status he has now.

THE GOONIES - Why celebrate the spookiest time of the year for only 13 nights when you can celebrate for 31!? Freeform has expanded their annual Halloween programming event to "31 Nights of Halloween" bringing more thrills and chills to the entire month. From Oct. 1, the network will be invaded by everyoneÕs favorite witches, a murderous barber, out of control dinosaurs and everything else that goes bump in the night. (WARNER BROS.) In a previous interview with People magazine, Brolin looked back at his role in the classic, saying that it was “probably the greatest experience of my life.” He added that it was something that “never should have happened,” as he had been previously rejected a few times when auditioning for the role.

His reservations just might stem from the experience he and so many other viewers had with quite a few reboots: “It’s like, ‘Oh, we came out with another,’ and then the Goonies grew up, and then they came out with their walkers and then they fell off a cliff because they couldn’t see very well.”

Yet, at the same time, Brolin doesn’t rule out that he (and possibly other stars from the original) might return for the sequel, and he hinges that possibility on the involvement of Steven Spielberg - “Maybe it could be great. If it's great, you'll know. If Spielberg approves it, you know it's going to be good.”

So as the production of The Goonies 2 starts happening, the multitude of fans of the original probably have the same questions, worries and hopes as Brolin, but will have to wait to see what will happen next.
