After nearly two years of waiting porchside, Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) and Din Grogu are suiting back up for another adventure in The Mandalorian and Grogu. The pair of heroes seemingly concluded their adventuring days at the close of The Mandalorian Season Three, but they're getting back into the swing of things. And their next mission is a New Republic-sanctioned gig.

To recap, Mando brokered a deal with Mister Kim—excuse me—Captain Carson Teva (Paul Sun-Hyung Lee) to take on odd jobs for the New Republic during the finale. Mando decides that his best course of action is to return to bounty hunting, except not as an unaffiliated mercenary. He proposes to Teva that he serve as an independent contractor. Unfortunately, due to regulations, it won't fly—no pun intended. That's why Din Djarin suggests they keep their arrangement off the books.
Thanks in part to footage shown at Star Wars Celebration in Japan, audiences know that Mando takes his New Republic assignment very seriously. In the preview, a clip depicts Sigourney Weaver's unnamed Republic pilot ordering Mando to do something. While the specifics of the order remain unclear, any directive from a New Republic leader should be tenable. Of course, there's a precedent for individuals on both sides losing their composure while under pressure, and perhaps she orders Din Djarin to do something that conflicts with his core principles.
The likelier explanation, though, is that Weaver's character is a member of the Mando crew. It only continues to grow, and the footage teased thus far supports such a conclusion.

In addition to Weaver's character, Zeb Orrelios (Steve Blum) is also joining the crew. The CGI-created Zeb can be spotted alongside Mando in the premiere footage, which is more than enough reason to believe that he is running ops with Din Grogu and Din Djarin. A team-up makes sense in the grand scheme of things, too. Mando completed repairing IG-II, partnered with a rogue Rebel Pilot, he has his Baby Yoda, and is hauling Zeb along with him. Altogether, this points to an all-star-style team forming in a galaxy far far away.

One new addition to the cast, however, probably won't be an ally: Rotta the Hutt. Jeremy Allen White is playing the newest member of the Hutts; someone audiences haven't seen before. The last time audiences saw the Hutt regime, they were wreaking havoc on the streets of Mos Pelgo. The twins left peacefully, of course, only after a public dressing down by Boba Fett (Temuera Morrison).

With their history as troublemakers in mind, there's a very distinct possibility that Rotta the Hutt possesses similar motivations to his brothers and sisters. Keep in mind that White is coming off a hot streak of performances, including his role in The Bear. He could be playing a central role in the movie's plot—perhaps as an antagonist—or maybe his Rotta is complex like many characters in the sci-fi realm. Only time will tell, though.
Grogu and The Mandalorian premieres in theaters on May 22, 2026.
