Spider-Man: Brand New Day will see the return of Tom Holland as the web-slinging hero, but the production now faces a new setback. After debuting his version of Peter Parker, aka Spider-Man, in Captain America: Civil War, Holland’s hero became one of the defining characters in the MCU. Along with appearances in Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, Spider-Man: Brand New Day will mark his fourth solo movie.

However, the production for Spider-Man: Brand New Day has been met with a slight delay after an accident on set involving its main star. Deadline reports that Holland suffered a minor concussion following a stunt gone wrong. Holland was rushed to the hospital and examined before being released, but the production has decided to halt for several days to ensure the actor has time to recover. Production will resume on Monday, Sept. 29.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day is shaping up to be one of the most exciting movies in the MCU’s solo franchise, while also being quite different from what came before. While plot details are not yet known, the movie takes place in the aftermath of Spider-Man: No Way Home, in which all memory of Peter Parker was wiped from the universe’s memory in order to save the multiverse.

Along with Holland back as the wallcrawler, Spider-Man: Brand New Day will bring back Zendaya as MJ and Jacob Batalon as Ned Leeds. Several established MCU characters will also be returning, including Jon Bernthal as The Punisher and rumors of Mark Ruffalo as Hulk. The cast also includes Sadie Sink (Stranger Things) and Tramell Tillman (Severance) in undisclosed roles.

What Tom Holland’s injury could mean for Spider-Man 4’s production

Tom Holland’s injury on the set of Spider-Man: Brand New Day may have only led to a week of delays, but that doesn’t mean it won’t have significant impacts on the production. While MCU movies are typically used to adapt to speedy production to fit their regimented release schedule, it is possible that Spider-Man: Brand New Day could see its release date shifting as a result of these delays.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day is currently scheduled to be released on July 31, 2026. Though it faces a lot of competition around that time, including Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, in which Holland also appears, it is a prime summer release date that the studios will not want to give up. There is also the question of how it fits into the MCU release calendar, as it is the most recent MCU movie on the horizon and will be the last release before Avengers: Doomsday.

Though issues may arise going forward, the most important thing right now is ensuring Holland is healthy. It is good news that the injury seems to be minor, but taking the precautions in delaying filming was a wise move. Regardless of whether the release date needs to move, fans will be waiting for Spider-Man’s next adventure.
