Tom Holland is returning as Peter Parker for Spider-Man: Brand New Day, and Marvel friends around the world are understandably ecstatic. However, a new suit and a familiar face aren't the only things revealed in the newest update. Holland's new photos just revealed a massive detail.
This week, images of Tom Holland in the new Spider-Suit surfaced on the internet, and (at least in this writer's opinion) Spidey hasn't looked this good since the Tobey Maguire days. However, there's a reason for such a familiar design choice. We've seen what Peter Parker can do when equipped with the latest innovations in Stark tech, so why would he revert to a more traditional flair?
Spider-Man gets back to his roots
At the end of Spider-Man: No Way Home, the world has essentially forgotten all about Peter Parker and his heroic deeds, leaving him to essentially reinvent himself as our Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man. The film ends with the reveal of Peter in a new suit that harkens back to the days of Stan Lee's comic books, and that might not be the only callback in store.
Take a look at some of the most recent superhero movies this year. Superman and Fantastic Four: First Steps are both making bank at the box office and with critics. Why? Because there's been a back-to-basics approach to the genre that has truly won fans over, and it's not just nostalgia talking.

Look at the titles. "First Steps" and "Brand New Day" have a heavy theme of starting over. Like Marvel's First Family, Spider-Man is getting the same treatment. It's about more than just a redo, it's a fresh take on a familiar figure, and it begins with that iconic suit.
This comic-accurate suit, paired with the title, could mean a completely new Spider-Man. Considering that Peter is canonically getting a fresh start in his new, post-Multiverse life, it could mean an overdue return to the classic action seen in days of yore.
We've had Spidey duke it out with some of his debut nemeses before, like The Vulture and The Lizard, so it wouldn't be unfair to say that this return to a more familiar formula could open the door for an equally comic-book-level threat. Could we be getting our MCU Green Goblin, maybe even the Chameleon?
To reiterate, this is all primarily wishful thinking, but if Marvel's current track record is anything to go by, we could be looking down the barrel of a return to form for Spider-Man. Hopefully, director Destin Daniel Cretton can give audiences something Stan Lee would be proud of.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day hits theatres July 31, 2026.
