There are some family movies that become immediate hits, and there’s no doubt that Toy Story was one of them. It’s somewhat hard to believe that the movie turns 30 in 2025, and just like so many other movies hitting major anniversaries, there’s some exciting news about this Pixar release.
Toy Story is heading back to theaters for a limited time only. It’s time for parents and grandparents to gather up the kids and head to watch it the way it was intended. On the big screen!

Toy Story is heading back to theaters in September 2025
There’s not long left to wait for the movie to head to theaters once more. ABC News confirms that tickets are now on sale, with the movie hitting theaters on Friday, Sept. 12. It’s not clear just how long it will be in theaters for, so you’ll want to grab your tickets asap, because this one is sure to sell out fast!
The exciting news was shared during the D23 event over Labor Day Weekend in Orlando, Florida. It came along with a sneak peek of Toy Story 5, which is scheduled for release on June 19, 2026, and will focus on an army of Buzz Lightyear toys that have malfunctioned. Of course, it’s Buzz Lightyear again who is causing some sort of problem.
Conan O’Brien will voice a character called Smarty Pants, who was seen in the clip during the D23 event. There’s also a character called Lilypad, which is a frog-themed case that holds a tablet that’s going to be the villain of the story. Digital is trying to take over, and the Toy Story franchise is remaining on point.

Yes, Toy Story turns 30 in 2025!
It’s hard to believe that this iconic movie is turning 30. It was originally released in theaters on Nov. 22, 1995, so the rerelease isn’t quite at the same time to mark the anniversary.
Toy Story did something that no other movie had done up to this point. It used CGI throughout the whole feature length movie, changing the way all animation worked at the time.
Since the release of the first movie, there have been three others in the franchise along with a bunch of shorts. The third movie came out years after the first two, bringing up the topic of what happens to toys as children grow up. We all discard the toys that we’ve come to know and love over the years, and Toy Story has been able to give them a voice.
