The 82nd Golden Globes was a wild night of laughs, shocking wins, and a star-studded affair. Nikki Glaser kicked off the show with plenty of funny jokes that led through the night of a great hosting job by the comedian. More importantly, the Globes announced the winners of the big film awards, and we have it all for you below.
The Golden Globes were the first of two major awards shows this week, with the Critics Choice Awards coming on January 12. When these two awards shows crown their winners, pundits' predictions for the upcoming Oscar nominations will shift. The night was on par with many predictions, but several shocking wins had the world talking.
82nd Golden Globes Winners
Best Motion Picture - Drama: The Brutalist
Best Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy: Emilia Perez
Best Motion Picture - Animated: Flow
Best Motion Picture – Non-English Language: Emilia Perez
Best Director - Motion Picture: Brady Corbet, The Brutalist
Best Screenplay - Motion Picture: Peter Straughan, Conclave
Best Original Score - Motion Picture: Atticus/Ross, Challengers
Best Original Song - Motion Picture: El Mal, Emilia Perez
Cinematic and Box Office Achievement: Wicked
The biggest shock of the night was hearing Peter Straughan's name announced for Best Screenplay. His writing of Conclave is razor sharp, grabs ahold of you, and never lets go. It is much deserved, but winning over Anora and The Brutalist was a shock. However, The Brutalist didn't go home empty-handed handed with Brady Corbet winning Best Director and the film winning Best Motion Picture Drama. Two massive wins for the film. The night was capped off with a win for Emilia Perez in the Best Motion Picture in Musical/Comedy. I loved that win and thought it was fantastic!
Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Motion Picture – Drama: Fernanda Torres, I'm Still Here
Best Performance by a Male Actor in a Motion Picture – Drama: Adrien Brody, The Brutalist
Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy: Demi Moore, The Substance
Best Performance by a Male Actor in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy: Sebastian Stan, A Different Man
Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role in any Motion Picture: Zoe Saldana, Emilia Perez
Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role in any Motion Picture: Kieran Culkin, A Real Pain
The sweep is ahead for Kieran Culkin and Zoe Saldana, as they are the two front runners in both categories. This was a huge night for both of them and what should be a fruitful season for the duo. Speaking of big nights, Demi Moore solicited her Oscar contender status, upsetting Mikey Madison to take home Lead Actor in Musical or Comedy. I was skeptical, but this has officially put her in the driver's seat to be within the Oscar five. As for Sebastian Stan, he should've been in this conversation from the beginning for his performance in A Different Man. I hope this can shift him into that fifth slot in the Best Actor race.
Fernanda Torres shocked the world with her upset over Nicole Kidman and Angelina Jolie. This is huge for her chase to be among the five in the Best Actress Race. For Best Actor, Adrien Brody took home his first-ever Golden Globe for his performance in The Brutalist. Although it wasn't an upset, it does solidify him as the front-runner for Best Actor.
