The beloved Australian animated series, Bluey, continues to grow in its fame with its ongoing presence on Disney and Disney+ here in America. Across the globe, the show, told through the eyes of an explorative six-year-old Heeler puppy and her family, is aired on Disney's international channels, which only adds to the Bluey bliss. There are over 150 episodes, including the 28-minute "The Sign," where Bluey embarks on different life changes and projects her emotions toward them.

She's an icon for sure, because she not only educates children that you can learn real-life lesson from imaginative, hands-on games, but she also releases our Inner Child, and to take a moment to value the little things that formulates life. For parents who enjoy Bluey as much as their kids, the show showcases supportive parenting and how it can help them in similar situations.

In its seven years (and counting) since its debut, Bluey branched out into various media forms, including a stage play and having a balloon in the annual Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. Clothing, books, toys, housewares, and other merchandise dedicated to the Heeler family only added to the craze. Now, Bluey is coming out with a movie and it's about time, because this cheerful little dog is here to stay.

Here's what to know about the Bluey movie

The storylines for the full-length feature are currently under wraps, but we expect it to have the Heelers and their friends engage in some epic or revolutionary adventure as they do on the show. David McCormack and Melanie Zanetti will voice Bandit and Chilli Heeler, and the production is backed by a partnership with BBC Studios, Ludo Studios, and Disney Studios.

Disney released the movie's theatrical premiere date, which is August 6, 2027. That's nearly two years from now, but you know what they say, "the longer you wait, the better it is," but if I were to be honest, the long wait for Bluey will be a test to my patience.

Following the theatrical release, the Bluey movie will stream on Disney+ in the US and on the platforms ABC (Australian Broadcasting Corp.) iView and ABC Kids in Australia. And although it's a little way down the road, I'm predicting that it will be both a Box Office and streamer success.

The creator of Bluey, Joe Brumm, will act as the main writer and director for the movie. After the success of "The Sign," Brumm felt it was only natural to go toward the film route.

Back in December 2024, when Ludo Studios initially announced the production, Brumm elaborated on his plans to extend Bluey and his hopes for its next phase.

“ I really enjoyed the experience of working with a longer format on ‘The Sign’ in [season] 3, so going even further with a feature film feels like a natural extension of that. I’ve always thought Bluey deserved a theatrical movie. I want this to be an experiential event for the whole family to enjoy together."

Until Bluey pants her way to the theaters, nearly every episode of the show can be streamed on Disney+!
