The Woman in Cabin 10

Netflix Release Date: Oct. 10

Kiera Knightley has already established a solid relationship with Netflix as the star of the hit thriller series Black Doves. Now, she leads a new mystery that is perfect for fans of the whodunnit genre. The Woman in Cabin 10 is an adaptation of the best-selling novel by Ruth Ware and stars Knightley as a journalist aboard a luxury cruise liner who believes the murder of a fellow passenger has been covered up.

The premise is clearly inspired by Agatha Christie novels, like Murder on the Orient Express, with Knightley as a sleuth surrounded by all the other passengers who could be the killer. That suspect list is made up of a solid ensemble, including Guy Pearce, Hannah Waddingham, and Gugu Mbatha-Raw. It is the perfect fall thriller to put Netflix users on the edge of their seats.

A House Of Dynamite

Netflix Release Date: Oct. 24

It has been eight years since Oscar-winning director Kathryn Bigelow made her last movie, so there is a lot of excitement about her return with A House of Dynamite. Bigelow steps back into the political thriller genre with this new movie, featuring a strong cast and a gripping premise. It follows White House personnel and other government officials as they deal with the launch of a nuclear weapon on an American city.

A House of Dynamite stars Rebecca Ferguson, Anthony Ramos, and Idris Elba, among others. After premiering on the festival circuit, the buzz around the movie has only grown. It is being called a taut and intense thriller that will leave you breathless. Bigelow seems like the perfect filmmaker to tackle such heavy subject matter that tackles some timely fears in society.

Frankenstein

Netflix Release Date: Nov. 7

One of the greatest horror stories of all time gets a new update from one of the greatest modern horror filmmakers. Guillermo del Toro’s version of Frankenstein has been highly anticipated, as the filmmaker has spoken at length for decades about this being his dream project. Oscar Isaac stars as the mad scientist Victor Frankenstein, while Jacob Elordi plays The Creature.

Del Toro is the perfect filmmaker to offer a creepy and faithful adaptation of Mary Shelley’s iconic novel. His gothic vibe and penchant for portraying sympathetic and misunderstood monsters speak directly to the themes of Shelley’s work. While it will be arriving too late on Netflix to be enjoyed as a Halloween treat, it is a must-watch movie for horror fans.

Jay Kelly

Netflix Release Date: Dec. 5

This time of the year will see a lot of buzz around what movies could be up for the big awards, and Jay Kelly is certainly going to be in that conversation. It is the latest project from writer-director Noah Baumbach and stars George Clooney as a Hollywood movie star confronting his legacy and personal life while joined by his loyal manager (played by Adam Sandler).

The star power behind the movie is exciting enough, especially with Laura Dern, Billy Crudup, and Greta Gerwig also as part of the ensemble. Clooney is receiving high praise out of the festivals with a role that mirrors aspects of his own career. However, Sandler is also getting strong Oscar buzz for his supporting role, further reminding everyone that he is not just a comedic actor.

Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Story

Netflix Release Date: Dec. 12

Likely the most anticipated Netflix movie for the rest of the year is the latest installment in Netflix’s best movie franchise. Wake Up Dead Man is the third movie in Rian Johnson’s Knives Out trilogy, with Daniel Craig returning as super sleuth Benoit Blanc. This time around, Blanc is looking into a mysterious death within a church community, which he is certain is a murder being disguised as something else.

As with the other two movies, Craig is leading a massive ensemble of talented actors, including Josh O’Connor, Glen Close, Josh Brolin, and Jeremy Renner. Johnson has also said that this whodunnit will be a slightly darker and grimmer mystery compared to the more comedic Glass Onion. Regardless, it promises to be a gripping mystery that will keep audiences guessing the entire time.
