With October now upon us, Netflix users will be looking to see what must-watch movies are available on the streamer this month. Each month sees Netflix adding plenty of new titles to its already extensive library of content. October 2025 is no different, as there are some exciting new original Netflix movies mixed with some established titles.

October will feature some selections that are perfect for those looking to get into the spooky spirit of Halloween. There are also some movies that could be talked about a lot with the upcoming awards season. Of course, there are also those titles that even the most binge-loving Netflix users can likely pass on this month.

The Strangers (2008)

October is the perfect time to enjoy a great horror movie, and Netflix is adding a few for the Halloween season. Fans of the genre are not likely to find more intense thrills than The Strangers. Billed as being based on real events, Liv Tyler and Scott Speedman star as a couple being terrorized by masked villains in their remote cabin.

While the recent reboot of The Strangers franchise has not been well-received, the original remains a horror gem. It perfects the nail-biting tension throughout, putting the audience on the edge of their seats. The grounded feel of the movie is all the more chilling as it feels eerily plausible.

Steve (2025)

Following his Oscar win for Oppenheimer, Cillian Murphy has become one of those actors who draws excitement with every new project he is involved in. Steve is the latest movie from Murphy, which sees him starring as a headteacher at a reform college. As he attempts to help a troubled student, he must also deal with his own mental health.

While Steve is a smaller project compared to some of the Christopher Nolan movies that Murphy has been a part of, but is looks to be the perfect showcase for the actor's incredible talents. The subject matter also promises to present a harrowing experience, but this could become one of Netflix's hidden gems of the year.

The Woman in Cabin 10 (2025)

The Woman in Cabin 10 maintains the creepy vibe that can be a lot of fun for this time of year. Kiera Knightley stars in the mystery thriller as a reporter invited to set sail on the maiden voyage of a luxury cruise ship. However, when she witnesses the apparent death of another passenger, the other affluent guests not only dismiss the idea but claim no such passenger was ever on board.

The Woman in Cabin 10 is the latest mystery to draw inspiration from the classic Agatha Christie novels, like Murder on the Orient Express and Death on the Nile. It is a lot of fun seeing Knightley back in the hero role. The supporting cast is also exciting, with Guy Pearce, Kaya Scodelario, and Hannah Waddingham among the suspects.

A House of Dynamite (2025)

A House of Dynamite is being billed as one of the most intense movies of the fall season, depicting a chilling real-world scenario. The Netflix Original movie takes a look at the various White House and military personnel responding to a nuclear missile being launched at an American city.

The movie comes from director Kathryn Bigelow, who has delivered several intense and gripping examinations of the modern military, such as The Hurt Locker and Zero Dark Thirty. Along with Bigelow’s anticipated return, the movie has an outstanding cast, including Rebecca Ferguson, Anthony Ramos, and Idris Elba.

Ballad of a Small Player (2025)

Following his team-up with Margot Robbie in A Big Bold Beautiful Journey, Colin Farrell returns with his second movie of the fall with Ballad of a Small Player. Another Netflix Original movie, that has Farrell playing a gambler in Macau whose debts are rising as he spends his time drinking and playing cards with the little money he has left.

The movie is the latest from director Edward Berger, whose last effort was the Best Picture nominee Conclave. Berger’s visual style looks to bring Macau’s nightlife alive in a vivid way, while Farrell delivers another compelling performance as the movie’s flawed protagonist.

Skip: Sinister 2 (2015)

While there are some great horror movies on Netflix to choose from for the Halloween season, one new addition to the streaming platform can be avoided. Sinister 2 is the sequel to the terrifying original movie from director Scott Derrickson. Ciarán Foy helms the sequel, which focuses on a new family moving into the house that holds a deadly supernatural force.

The first movie is hailed as a truly scary modern horror movie that sets up an interesting premise. The sequel bungles that mythology by showing the audience far too much of the aspects that should have been kept a mystery. As a result, the sequel is far less interesting and scary than what came before.
